Cattus Island Park is a recreational park located in Toms River, New Jersey. This location is home to the Cooper Environmental Center displaying species such as snakes and reptiles. The park spans out 530 acres and includes 7 miles of trails. Cattus Island, named for John V. A. Cattus, who acquired the island in 1895 and used it as a vacation home for many years, was first settled in the mid-1700s. Today, it offers the hiker the opportunity to traverse interesting salt marshes and pine forests along Barnegat Bay.

Hiking through Cattus island allows you to get out into nature and experience pinelands, marsh, as well as beaches. The surface throughout the hike will consist of sand, pine needels, wood chips, and boardwalk. This hike has no eleviation change and very little level change. While walking though the different terrains make sure to keep your eyes peeled for all the different types of birds Cattus Island is home too. When going on this hike make sure that you are wearing supportive sneakers so your feet are comfortable through the terrain changes. Since this hike is 3.5 miles long it is suggested that you bring at least 18 ounces of water. For this hike all you need is comfortable shoes, water, sunglasses, and bug spray.

The Double Trouble Historic District occupies over 200 acres and includes the village and surrounding bogs. The natural environment of cedar forest and rapidly flowing stream. Double Trouble Village is an active cranberry farm and visitors are asked to use caution around the bogs and reservoirs. Camping is not permitted in Double Trouble.

The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and bird watching. The trail is welcome to all and is an open family friendly Hike. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash at all times. The trail is a great beginner entry trail perfect for newcomers to hiking.
